Legal firm of a major law firm of the state of Florida sued the state over its handling of an internal probe into whether it misused taxpayer funds in an investigation into the misuse of money by the Florida state government.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the US Attorney’s Office and the Florida Attorney General’s Office have all been named as defendants in the lawsuit filed by law firm Donovan in the state’s federal court in Miami.
The state attorney general, Scott Pruitt, has since denied the claims.
Lawyers for the law firm have said that they have not received any documents that would support the claims of wrongdoing made by the state.
The lawsuit was filed on Monday in the US District Court in Miami by attorneys from Donovan, the National Association of Public Accountants and the Miami-Dade Bar Association.
It is the latest in a string of legal action by Donovan against the state, including the $25 million lawsuit against the Florida State University, which was settled in January.
“We filed this suit in an attempt to compel the State of Florida to turn over the documents it has been withholding from the public and to compel Donovan to provide the documents,” Donovan attorney, Kevin DeLuca, said in a statement on Tuesday.
A state judge ruled last year that the documents were not public record and they were not responsive to the state attorney-general’s request.
As part of the lawsuit, the Florida Department for Law Enforcement said that it was investigating whether Donovan, through its partner law firm, had engaged in fraud by misappropriating the funds of the Florida legislature.
State Attorney General Pam Bondi and Donovan have both said that Donovan is not a party to the case.
The US Attorney, Patrick McGrath, has not commented on the lawsuit.
Dolan has been sued by several law firms in Florida in the past.
Last year, Donovan sued the City of Miami for $10 million over its investigation into a purported fraud scheme involving its $30 million deal with a construction company.
In January, Donovan was also sued by the city of Tampa over a $3.5 million settlement with the city.
Donovan, which has offices in Tampa, St Petersburg and Gainesville, has been called one of the world’s top litigators.
It has defended some of the biggest names in business, including Microsoft, Google and the United States Postal Service.
