MSNBC | A new owner of the national litigation company, which has faced controversy for its ties to the Trump administration, says the company needs to change and be more accountable to the people it serves.
The new owner, Andrew S. Cohen, is taking over the company and hopes to do more to improve its reputation, according to a statement released by Cohen’s firm, Cohen & Associates.
He has hired former Justice Department attorney Michael R. Wertheimer as its new CEO, and Cohen is stepping down as president and CEO of the company.
In a statement, Cohen’s company said the new CEO will focus on “investing in strategic initiatives to address our company’s growing needs to address the most pressing issues facing our nation, and ensuring that we continue to be a model of quality and innovation.”
Cohen said in the statement that he wants the company to be more transparent about its activities and policies, including the role of government attorneys, and he wants it to be less beholden to special interests.
“We must be accountable to our customers and to our taxpayers,” Cohen said.
“We will no longer seek special favors, but instead strive to serve our customers fairly and honestly.
We will also strive to be transparent with our customers about how we spend their money, so that we can be as transparent with them about our actions as possible.”
The Trump administration has said it is investigating whether the company misled investors in its initial public offering in 2016.
